Student Guide - How to upload videos to Panopto Assignment Folder
HOW TO UPLOAD VIDEO TO PANOPTO

As part of your studies, you may be required to submit a video to Panopto. If this is the case, you can either, record your video directly using Panopto, or record your video using an alternative device and upload it to the Panopto Assignment Folder.
This guide explains how to upload a video file recorded elsewhere, into a Panopto assignment folder. For guidance around recording directly into Panopto to capture content, please refer to the relevant help guides available on Moodle or the official Panopto website how-to guides.
When you upload to Panopto using the student Assignment Folder, your recording will be private to yourself and your university tutor(s). By default, your fellow students will not be able to view the recording.
Note: Before you can upload to Panopto, your module tutor must have enabled the Assignment Folder feature on the relevant recording folder. To upload your video, you will need to complete the steps below:
- Create your video and ensure it is in an acceptable format for upload
- Sign in to the Panopto website
- Locate the assignment folder
- Upload your video
- Edit your title, description and share the URL
1. Create your video
Record your video as normal using a digital camera, webcam, smartphone or other device. Panopto supports a wide range of video formats including: AVI, MP4, MPG, WMV, MOV, QT, ASF, 3GP, WMA, MP3, M4V.
2. Sign in to the Panopto website
Navigate to https://rgu.cloud.panopto.eu/ If you are not already signed into CampusMoodle, you will be prompted to enter your RGU username and password. Once signed in, you are presented with the RGU Panopto homepage.
Note: To upload videos directly from an iOS or Android device, download the free Panopto app. This is available within the Apple and Google Play app stores. When signing into the Panopto app, you will need to enter the RGU Panopto address. The address is rgu.cloud.panopto.eu

3. Locate the correct folder
By default, you will have access to several different folders within Panopto. Some of these will be ‘Public’ folders which are not relevant to your work.
To hide the public folder options, you can toggle the Browse menu settings to show ‘My Folders’ rather than ‘All Folders’ by clicking on the appropriate heading. A restricted number of folders you have access to are then displayed.
As a student, you can only upload content to ‘Assignment’ folders, identifiable by the [assignments] suffix.
From the folder list, find the correct assignment folder. You can make this easier by searching for your module code in the search box. By default, accessto any recordings you upload to this folder are restricted so that only you and your module tutor(s) can access them. To select the folder, click its name in the list.
Note: It is important that you select the correct assignment folder before uploading your video. Ensure the folder’s code, name and year relates to the module you are intending to submit your work to.
4. Upload your video
Once you have located and selected the correct assignment folder, you are ready to upload your video. From the top of the screen, click ‘Create’, then select ‘Upload media’.

A dialogue box appears, enabling you to drag and drop your recording. Alternatively, click to find your recording on the computer. You can see the upload and processing progress.
Once complete, you can close the window. The recording will now be available for you and your module tutors to view online via Panopto.
5. Edit your title, description and share the URL
Once you have uploaded your video to Panopto and it has finished processing you should review it to ensure you are happy with the upload. You can view your submission by clicking on it.
If you are happy with the upload now would also be a good time to rename your submission. Depending on your requirements, this could be your name and student ID number, and you can also add a meaningful description to aid tutors in identifying your work.

First select the ‘settings’ gear icon. From the resultant page you can adjust the name and description of your uploaded video. All the other default settings should be left as they are.
If you need to share the URL of your recording with your classmates or tutors, you can do this by selecting ‘Share’ from the options on the left. You will be taken to a tab which contains a copy of the link to your video. By default this link is only visible to yourself and any tutors on your course.
